Five shingle tiers, and what each one is for
Asphalt shingles are the standard on Northwest Arkansas homes because they cost less than metal or wood, are easy to maintain, and come in a wide range of colors and profiles. The fiberglass mat underneath handles the humidity and heavy rain we get here. But the word shingle covers a wide spread of quality.
Class 3 is the baseline: Owens Corning Duration, TAMKO Heritage, CertainTeed Landmark. Class 4 impact-resistant shingles such as TAMKO Heritage IR are tested for hail. SBS polymer shingles such as Malarkey Vista AR and Owens Corning Duration FLEX are the most impact-resistant you can buy. Designer lines such as CertainTeed Belmont look like slate or shake.

Choosing a color and a profile you will live with
The shingles we install on nearly every roof are architectural and dimensional Owens Corning lines in a range of colors. Judge the color against your brick, stone and trim, not against a small sample in the truck.
Some of the colors we have installed recently: Moire Black in CertainTeed Landmark on a Springdale ranch, Onyx Black and Black Sable in Owens Corning Duration, and Colonial Slate in CertainTeed Belmont on a 4,642 sq ft home in Centerton.
Designer lines add roughly 30 to 60 percent to material cost, and the upgrade is mostly about looks. Class 4 and SBS are where the money buys hail performance. We will tell you which one you are paying for.
Chapter 03
Installed to spec, or the warranty means nothing
Every shingle job follows the full replacement process: proper underlayment, flashing and ventilation, not new shingles nailed down over whatever was already there.
Our sales reps, site supervisors and installers train on manufacturer installation instructions, and that training is what makes the roof system eligible for warranty coverage. Installing to those instructions is what lets the roof system qualify for warranty coverage in the first place.
Every installation qualifies for Owens Corning's Platinum Protection coverage. If another quote is for three-tab shingles, ask why: it is a 25-year product on a 30-year roof.
